Today starts the process of school enrollment. On August 20th, Annabelle starts first grade and Elijah starts Kindergarten. I am looking forward to getting back into a routine again. Over the summer, I did not take care of my body very well, and the effects have built up and I’m feeling worn out, plus I’ve got a cold. The kids are needing some more structure, so as sad as it is that they are starting back to school for me, I am also looking forward to it.
My friend Jen posted earlier in the week about being encouraged at She Speaks to write her own version of Psalm 23. I thought it would be a fitting exercise for me to write Psalm 23 in my own weariness, to give life and strengthen me in my weakness. I hope you enjoy, and I encourage you to try it too. I think I could write different versions depending on the circumstance. Here’s my first attempt.
Psalm 23 (mama over child style)
Abba Daddy is my caretaker, tending over me like a doting mama. He provides all I need.
When tired and need to rest, He makes sure I have a good place to lay down, with comfy covers and blankies.
When I am thirsty, He provides the life-giving refreshment I need to quench my drought;
there is always one more sip of water for me.
His care refreshes my body and my soul – every bit of me.
He shows me how to live life fully and right, for to do so brings His name renown.
Even when I walk through the darkest darkness, I have nothing to be afraid of.
He is always near me, with a nightlight or flashlight and a calming pat to my side to comfort me.
He lavishes good things on me in the presence of my enemies, which energizes and strengthens me.
Abba daddy has set me aside as His, therefore I cannot contain the joy that wells up in me.
What goodness, love, and grace will be with me all the days of my life,
because I will dwell continually with Abba in His house where all these good things flow.
I hope you enjoyed my version of this psalm.
I also have some exciting news. I will be reading Unglued by Lysa Terkeurst and posting about each chapter on my blog every Thursday. I am joining up with my friend Kayse Pratt at Finding Hope. Let me know if you plan to grab a book and read along. I will start posting thoughts as well as questions this coming Thursday.
